CREATING A MOTIVATIONAL POSTER IN MS WORD

MICROSOFT WORD DRAWING PROJECT No. 50

TITLE:   CREATING A MOTIVATIONAL POSTER IN MS WORD

TYPE:    GRAPHIC DESIGN

My former secondary school English teacher once said, “Everybody has problems. But I never bring my personal problems to work. I always leave my personal problems at the gate before I enter the school compound so that I can concentrate on my work. After school I will pick them up at the gate and bring them home with me.” I feel that there is some wisdom in what he said and I started practising this virtue after I became a teacher. I believe that students are my clients and therefore I shouldn’t let my personal problems affect my responsibilities. So, starting off the day with a happy feeling or cheerful mood is good because it helps us perform our duties better.

Here is a motivational poster with the cute egg cartoon character to attract attention and to communicate the message to the viewers. In this art project, it is the morale boosting message that the poster is trying to convey.  Graphic Design is one of the disciplines in Visual Communication.  When you use pictures and text to communicate ideas and messages to the audience, it is known as visual communication.

I used complimentary colours to create contrast between the text and the background. The bright green coloured background complements the red coloured text. In other words, combining the red coloured text with the green background makes the look text more intense and attractive and such effect can draw viewers’ attention to the message.

HOW TO DRAW A CARTOON CHARACTER IN MS WORD

MICROSOFT WORD DRAWING PROJECT No. 49

TITLE:   CREATING A CARTOON EGG CHARACTER IN MS WORD

TYPE:    DIGITAL DRAWING - CARTOON

I have an old nursery book titled THE OXFORD NURSERY SONG by Percy Buck. This book was published in 1933 by Oxford University Press, London. It is unique because it contains a collection of 111 nursery rhymes and songs. One of the nursery rhymes that inspired me to create a cartoon drawing with MS Word is Humpty Dumpty (page 17). It seems that Humpty Dumpty is one of the popular characters in the English language nursery rhymes. According to WIKIPEDIA, this character has been around for more than 200 years and became popular in the 19th century.
I believe that many people know what happened to Humpty Dumpty when he sat on the wall. The drawing that I have created depicts the character in a cheerful mood. It is much simpler to draw compared to the goose, squid and burger. I made use of the preset shapes and manipulated them to create this drawing. The shapes that I used are as follows: Oval, Moon, and Arc.

This is the preliminary digital drawing which looks quite plain. Since this is a vector drawing, you can enlarge or reduce its size within the area of the document without affecting the clarity of the image. I named this character Happy Egg.

The image’s appearance is enhanced by rendering gradient and shadow effects to create the illusion of depth. Do you know that you can actually create bevel and emboss effects with Shadow Effects?  Even though the effects may not be very outstanding, I think the results are not too bad. Try it and judge for yourself!
